Contributing to Paul Bingle's Campaign for Columbus City Council
Successful political campaigns are fueled by bountiful energy provided by the candidate and their supporters - and by money.
Candidate Bingle is not happy about the fact that he will need to raise substantial cash to run a successful campaign - but the facts are what they
are. In the 2005 City Council race, the winning candidates raised an average of more than $170,000 per candidate (based on year 2005 financial
disclosures filed with the Franklin County Board of Elections). The reality is that the 2007 race, when the incumbents are feeling especially
vulnerable with three of their five incumbents having been appointed during 2007 - they will leverage their incumbency to raise historical sums of
funds to mount an aggressive media campaign. Bingle will need to raise similar funds to address his opponent's anticipated media blitz.
Every contribution to Paul Bingle's campaign matters. Every contribution will be carefully spent in an effort to broadcast Bingle's name and
community service experience in the attraction of November voters. Bingle's plan is to conduct a unique campaign in terms of branding his
name. He would welcome an opportunity to sit down with you to discuss how your contribution would be utilized.
It is natural to ask "how much should my contribution be?" That is an equally challenging question, in reverse, for the candidate when he is
asking for specific contributions! Asking for a reasonable contribution while not over or under-asking. Bingle realizes that there are not 150
persons with the interest to make a $1,000 contribution - although that would certainly allow the fundraising effort to be more consolidated. Are
there 300 persons who might contribute $500 each? Again, it is unlikely. Bingle's interest is to conduct a grassroots campaign that attracts a
wide array of donors, but he knows that without paid staff, it is unlikely that there will be enough time and energy to seek and secure 6,000 $25
contributors. Thus, the answer to the original questions remains: Please contribute at a level that is meaningful to you. Know that Bingle will
always be yearning for more as the pressure for marketing expenses will always exceed the revenues available. Please consider an equally
powerful and effective gift: after making your personal contribution, seek 10 friends, neighbors, or associates to join you in making a
contribution. Ask yourself what most influences your election to make a contribution? If you are like us, the recommendation of a friend is an
effective decision factor. Your double-value contribution will be especially appreciated.
